Advanced targeting

If you’ve read my review on Thrive Leads or purchased the product you will be familiar with a concept called Advanced Targeting.

Thrive has used the same concept inside Clever Widgets.

The Advanced Targeting options:

• Lets you display widgets for specific categories, tags, posts and pages
• Give you 100% control over exactly where and how your widgets are shown

Here’s some examples of how to use Advanced Targeting:

Example 1

I want to display my affiliate banner for Backblaze in my main sidebar (my widget area). But I don’t want to display it on every page. I only want to target specific posts in certain categories. In this example, you can see I’ve selected the categories of ‘Storage’ and ‘Data’:

So, if you go to a post in one of those categories you will see the Backblaze banner in the sidebar widget area.

Example 2

Here’s another example. In this case I want to select where I display my banner for Pressidium Hosting. I want to INCLUDE it in the Hosting Category, but I also want to EXCLUDE it from certain posts.

There are some sidebar widgets which I keep on most pages, for example, the Search Bar, the Social Connect Buttons, the Thrive Tabbed Widget. These widgets are not fixed; i.e. they will scroll with the page. The widgets that come after that are both Fixed and Clever.

You get the idea?

This is a simple, yet powerful, way to select where you target specific content in your widget areas.

Why use Clever Widgets

Hopefully you can see from the examples above just how clever the Thrive Clever Widgets plugin is.

It is far better to treat your readers to specific related content rather than just throwing everything at them on every page.

If you land on a page about email marketing, do you want to see sidebar content on WordPress Hosting Solutions? Nope, not really.
